The US, UK, and Canada have issued security alerts for their citizens in Nigeria ahead of a nationwide protest planned for August 1, 2024, against economic hardship. The advisories caution citizens to avoid areas of potential conflict, such as protests and rallies, due to risks of violence, roadblocks, and disruptions.

In Nigeria, Damilare Adenola of the Take It Back Movement insists the planned demonstration at Eagle Square in Abuja is a public right, despite the FCT Minister's stance on permitting the event. Adenola criticized the minister for demanding fees and suggested the delay in receiving the protest request letter might be due to bureaucratic issues.

The protest, driven by widespread dissatisfaction with the economic crisis, high inflation, and government policies like the removal of petrol subsidies, is expected to affect various states and the FCT. Adenola, representing the organizers, highlighted that hunger and economic hardship are key motivators for the protest, and alleged that the DSS has blocked the organization’s bank account.
