Navigating the chaos.
Directing our upcoming film project
Light π¦, camera πΈ, sound π.... action
There's a unique kind of electricity that hums through the air when you're about to direct a new a project. For me, it's a mix of excitement, anxiety and quiet voice whispering "this is your chance to make something unforgettable"
My upcoming film is a small but ambitious drama set in a single location. A cramped apartment that becomes a pressure cooker for the character's emotions π. On paper, it's simple but on set not so much π₯²
The first challenge hit before the cameras often rolled, scheduling, coordinating actors, crew, and making sure the locations are available feels like solving a rubik cube blindfolded.
I have come to learn that being free is a director's secret weapon.
Sometimes we swap scenes, adjust lighting plans or rewrites a moment entirely to keep the day moving.
There might also be disagreements between the cinematographer, the cinematographer may decide to see cool blues while I imagined it in warm golds, instead of getting into arguments and disagreements, I will learn to collaborate and see which one tells the story better.
And off course, there may be damages caused during shoots, a sudden weather change or an actor who decides to take "off" . In this moment, I will remind myself that directing is not about controlling everything but knowing how to handle unexpected events or circumstances by being Calm because when your crews sees you're being calm, they will be too .
So , as days draws closer to the shoot, I hold on to one thing ..β¦
β every challenge is just another scene in the Story
of making this film and like any good story, the Struggles makes the ending that much sweeter β
