Hannah Ajakaiye is an award-winning Nigerian journalist who stands out for her work in promoting information integrity, media literacy, and innovative reporting in science and technology-related areas. She actively uses digital tools to fight misinformation and help communities access accurate and trustworthy news.  

Hannah Ajakaiye started her journalism journey reporting for The Nation, Nigeria’s widely circulated newspaper, where she produced data-driven stories about development, technology, health, and social issues. She has earned reputable fellowships — including the 2017 Newscorp Fellowship and the 2018 Reham Al-Farra (RAF) Journalism Fellowship — recognising her excellence in reporting and storytelling.  

Her work now goes beyond traditional reporting. As a Knight Fellow with the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ), Hannah leads FactsMatterNG, a project focused on making facts go viral online by using creative digital strategies to counter the rapid spread of fake news on social media. This initiative works with newsroom partners and social media influencers to produce videos, graphics, and social media content that promote accurate information and combat misinformation in Nigeria.  

Beyond fact-checking, Ajakaiye helps strengthen newsroom capacity, trains journalists on digital storytelling, and plays a leading role in spreading media literacy. Her work shows how science, technology, and journalism can intersect to protect the public against misinformation in the digital age.
