I had applied for Political Science and international relations to become an ambassador who will travel to countries, standout and become a great woman. I imagined myself standing before great man and woman of Capacity, Nations and Government. But when my admission list came out, my heart sank I was given Film Making instead.
At first, I felt disappointed. Film? That wasn’t part of the plan. I didn’t even know how to operate a camera, let alone write a script or edit footage. For days, she considered switching departments. But something made me stay maybe it was curiosity, or maybe fate had other plans.
My turning point came during a practical class. The moment I stepped behind the camera, something clicked literally and emotionally. I saw how the lens captured truth, emotion, and life. I began to see film not just as entertainment, but as a tool for impact.
Bit by bit, I fell in love with the lights, the angles, the edits, the storytelling. I started learning beyond the classroom, watching tutorials, staying up late editing short clips, volunteering on student film sets, and carrying cameras that felt heavier than my fears.
