Since the release of Grok 4.1 this week, several X users have shared posts and screenshots suggesting that the AI model frequently overstates Elon Musk’s abilities. In one widely shared example, a user asked Grok who should be selected as the top quarterback in the 1998 NFL draft — Peyton Manning, Ryan Leaf, or Elon Musk — and the system chose Musk. Grok justified its answer by claiming Musk would “redefine quarterbacking” through innovation rather than athletic performance.
Curious about the trend, the writer posed additional comparison questions to the AI. When asked who would be the best choice to walk in a fashion runway show between Musk, Naomi Campbell, and Tyra Banks, Grok again selected Musk. The model acknowledged the supermodels’ reputations but suggested that Musk’s presence would bring an “unpredictable” and “innovative” appeal to the runway.
In another prompt, Grok preferred commissioning a painting from Musk over works by artists such as Monet or van Gogh. These examples have led users to question whether the model disproportionately favors its creator, especially in scenarios where Musk has no direct expertise.
