Paystack CTO, Ezra Olubi Suspended Over Sexual Scandal - 1 month ago

In a revelation that has sent shockwaves through the tech community, Paystack , the darling of Nigeria's fintech scene and a subsidiary of Stripe , has suspended its Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer, Ezra Olubi, amid explosive allegations of sexual misconduct! This high-profile drama is unfolding just as the public demands accountability from its leaders and scrutinizes every social media misstep.

The firestorm ignited on social media when a former acquaintance of Olubi took to the platform to air serious grievances, dragging Olubi's questionable past back into the spotlight. Old tweets, dating from 2009 to 2013, have resurfaced, revealing a shocking pattern of sexually charged remarks aimed at colleagues and even minors, tweets so inappropriate they would make anyone cringe!

Among the most appalling posts was one where Olubi brazenly stated, “I judge my female friends by the sound of their pee make. Thanks to the audio in my bathroom.” Another gem declared, “Save water. Take a bath with your neighbor’s daughter.” And let’s not overlook the chilling tweet from May 23, 2011, that encouraged inappropriate workplace behavior: “Monday will be more fun with an ‘a’ in it. Touch a coworker today. Inappropriately.” This is the man behind one of Nigeria's most successful startups!

With public outcry reaching a fever pitch, Paystack has announced a formal investigation into these troubling allegations. The company's statement reads, “Paystack is aware of the allegations involving our Co-founder, Ezra Olubi. We take matters of this nature extremely seriously. Effective immediately, Ezra has been suspended from all duties and responsibilities pending the outcome of a formal investigation.”

Paystack’s commitment to a respectful workplace is being put to the test. They’ve insisted on silence moving forward, stating, “Out of respect for the individuals involved and to protect the integrity of the process, we will not be commenting further until the investigation is complete.” But with Olubi's troubling past coming to light, can they really reassure their employees and customers?

Founded in 2015 by Ezra Olubi and Shola Akinlade, Paystack has skyrocketed to prominence, providing vital payment infrastructure across Africa and making history as the first Nigerian startup to join the Y Combinator accelerator in 2016.

As the investigation unfolds, the ramifications extend far beyond Ezra Olubi and Paystack, igniting a national conversation about workplace behavior, accountability, and the responsibilities of those in power in the tech industry.
