President Donald Trump landed in Israel today, arriving in celebration as the first group of Israeli hostages was released from Gaza after more than two years in captivity. The freed individuals, seven of the 20 still believed to be alive were handed over through the Red Cross and transported to Israeli territory, where military and medical teams awaited their arrival.
Trump’s visit is tied to a US brokered ceasefire deal that couples the hostage release with the phased return of Israeli troops to agreed lines and the release of nearly 2,000 Palestinian detainees held by Israel.
