The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has launched a ruthless crackdown on over 1,000 property owners in Abuja who have blatantly ignored their financial responsibilities. After months of patient public notices that fell on deaf ears, the FCTA is finally taking action, and it’s about time!
Under the stern leadership of Minister Nyesom Wike, the enforcement targets luxurious neighborhoods like Asokoro, Maitama, Garki, and Wuse. It’s no wonder these high-profile areas are under scrutiny; the FCTA is fed up with the audacity of property owners who think they can evade their legal obligations. Despite numerous warnings splashed across national newspapers, online platforms, and broadcast media from May to November, these individuals still chose to ignore the law.
Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant to Minister Wike, has confirmed that the FCTA is moving forward with enforcement actions on a staggering 1,095 properties that have had their titles revoked due to non-payment of Ground Rent, Certificate of Occupancy (C-of-O) bills, and other fees.
The FCTA's latest statements reflect a growing frustration with property owners who have turned a blind eye to their obligations. “Despite countless reminders urging compliance, these title holders have continued their irresponsible behavior,” Olayinka stated, implying that they are now facing the consequences of their inaction.
Wike himself has made it crystal clear: “The general public, and particularly property holders in the FCT, must understand that the FCTA will no longer turn a blind eye to these violations.”
The FCTA's decisive actions also come in response to significant revenue shortfalls that could impact infrastructure development and city maintenance. It’s simple; these high-value property owners are jeopardizing the future of Abuja by refusing to pay their dues. Just think of the impact on the city’s services!
With the FCTA ramping up its efforts to recover outstanding charges, the message is clear: if you own property in these affluent areas and have been neglecting your obligations, be prepared to face the music. Sealing, repossession, and other enforcement measures are imminent, and there’s no escaping the law!
This bold initiative by the FCTA is not just about collecting fees; it's a significant step towards restoring order and compliance in land use regulations within the Federal Capital Territory.
