It was a surprise military strike by the imperial Japanese Navy Air Service on the United States at Pearl Harbor in Honolulu, Hawaii just before 8:00am on Sunday, December 7th, 1941. “A date that will live in infamy” because the attack happened without a declaration of war and without warning.

The base was attacked by 353 imperial Japanese aircrafts. It damaged all the 8 US Navy battleships present and sunk 4. The USS Arizona still remains underwater to this day. 3 cruisers, 3 destroyers, an anti-aircraft training ship and 1 mine layer gone. More than 180 US Aircrafts were destroyed, 2,403 Americans were killed and 1,178 others were wounded. The attack on Pearl Harbor was later judged in Tokyo trials to be a war crime.

After president Franklin Roosevelt declared war Japan.  A few days later, Nazi Germany declared war on the United States and America entered World War II.
