Donald Trump has expressed hesitation about debating Vice President Kamala Harris, despite previously showing eagerness. In a Fox News interview, Trump said he “probably” would debate but also made a case for not doing it, citing public familiarity with both candidates. Previously, Trump had committed to debating Harris, especially after Joe Biden dropped out and Harris became the Democratic candidate. However, he questioned the debate terms and suggested moving it from ABC News, which he criticized as “fake news.”

Trump's inconsistent stance on debates is not new; he skipped all 2024 Republican primary debates, citing various reasons. In the recent interview, he reiterated the importance of timing debates before early voting.

Additionally, Trump clarified controversial comments made at a conservative event, where he told Christians they “won’t have to vote anymore” after his election. He urged them to vote “just this time” to “fix” the country, a statement criticized for its authoritarian tone. Trump explained that he was encouraging typically low-turnout Christian voters to participate in this election, emphasizing the need for their votes on November 5th.
