THE STORY OF MY HUMBLENES

‎‎BY NKANOR NTIENSE ASUQWO.

‎In a small village surrounded by green farms and dusty roads, there lived a boy named Nkanor. Nkanor was not the richest or the strongest among his friends, but everyone knew him for one thing — his humble heart. He greeted elders with respect, shared his food with friends, and never boasted about anything he had.

‎ Nkanor family was poor. His father was a farmer, and his mother sold vegetables in the market. Every morning before school, I helped carry water and sweep the compound. Some children laughed at his worn-out sandals and simple clothes, but I never argued. Instead, I smiled and focused on my  studies.

‎One day, a new teacher arrived in the village school. She announced a competition: any student who solved a difficult project about community development would win a scholarship to a big city school. Many students rushed to impress her. Some bragged about their intelligence, while others tried to show off expensive materials.

‎Nkanor quietly worked on his project after helping his parents in the evening. He wrote about how small acts of kindness — cleaning the environment, helping neighbors, and speaking politely — could change the community. His project was simple, written on plain paper, but it came from his heart.

‎On the day of presentation, some students laughed again me when they saw me work. “How can this small boy win anything?” they whispered. Nkanor felt nervous but remained calm. When it was his turn, he spoke softly about humility, unity, and service. The classroom became silent as everyone listened.

‎After all the presentations, the teacher stood up and smiled. She announced me  as the winner. The class was surprised. She explained that true greatness does not come from pride or expensive materials but from a good character and sincere effort. I was humility and clear vision had touched her deeply.

‎The students who once laughed at him began to respect me. l did not change; I still greeted everyone warmly and continued helping others. When i finally left for the city school, the whole village gathered to celebrate me.

‎Years later, I  returned as a successful community leader. I built a small library and helped children who could not afford school materials. Whenever people praised him, I would say, “Humility is the seed that grows into true success.”

And so, the humble boy taught his village that kindness and modesty can shine brighter than wealth or pride
