Summer knew that she had to be at alert even though everything seemed peaceful and the burial was almost over. She stood by Theo’s side as he paid his last respect to his grandfather. She lifted her head to look in the direction of the car, when she noticed something strange among the flowers.
She didn’t want to raise an alarm since she was not sure, and Conner was not anywhere close. But she knew they had to leave immediately, especially when she was unarmed.
“Theo, we need to go,” she whispered to him, as he looked down at his grandfather’s coffin which had just being laid into the ground. He didn’t say a word to her or make a move.
“Something is not right here, we need to move, now!” she said firmly and he looked at her.
She took a step and he attempted to follow when she grabbed his wrist forcefully, pulling him down.
“Get down!” she yelled, as the sound of a gunshot filled the air. Women screamed in fear and men ducked.
“Are you okay?” she asked him quickly,
“Yes, you?” he asked, his breath unstable.
She had startled him when he pulled him down, and the noise of the gun shot, further frightened him, she looked at him with concern in her eyes.
“Yes, but we need to get out of here now.” She warned and moved behind a tree briskly, Theo followed closely. He didn’t dare look back for fear of being shot. Another bullet was fired in their direction, and she knew, the killer was definitely after them.
